Marne Court officially opened on 21st February 2022

Our new assisted housing facility, sponsored by Clarion Housing, was opened by our Town Mayor, Councillor Ann Eves and Mrs Mary Belsey, Chair of Mid Sussex District Council on 21st February. Mrs Heather Warne, representing Burgess Hill Heritage and History Society gave an interesting talk about the story of social housing in Sussex and pointed out that this was the site of the first social housing in Burgess Hill, going back 190 years. The change of name from ‘Manor’ to ‘Marne Court’ was welcomed by the chairman of the association as it fits in well with our main objective, to foster a sense of community in Worlds End by conserving, enhancing and improving the area especially by working with local government. The original three terrace houses on this site were part of the “Homes for Heroes”scheme started after World War I, to provide housing for returning servicemen and women.

We were given an opportunity to view one of the flats and the event ended with a buffet lunch for all. Our sincere thanks to Clarion Housing for building an attractive and a very useful addition to the local housing stock, and for hosting the very enjoyable opening ceremony.
